This is the last number of the Bulletin of the Synod of Bishops, Synodus Episcoporum, which has been published by the Holy See Press Office with the information of the Special Assembly for America of the Synod of Bishops, having taken place from 16 November to 12 December 1997, in the Synod Hall, Vatican City, on the theme: "Encounter with the Living Jesus Christ, The Way to Conversion, Communion and Solidarity in America" . For the proper functioning of the Commission for Information, the Holy See Press Office has made available to the Special Assembly for America of the Synod of Bishops, their personnel and their technical services, under the guidance of the Vice Director Rev. Fr. Ciro BENEDETTINI , C.P., and has organized four language groups (Italian, English, French, and Castilian-Portuguese) for the accredited journalists. Thursday 11 December 1997, 12:45pm BULLETIN OF THE SYNOD OF BISHOPS "SYNODUS EPISCOPORUM" During the Special Assembly for America of the Synod of Bishops, the Bulletins, in the plurilingual, Italian, English, French, Castilian and Portuguese editions, offered the accredited journalists the possibility of following day by day, the Synod activities. From 15 November 1997, to 12 December 1997, 35 Bulletins were published with an overall printing of 1,665 copies (plurilingual 450, Italian 265, English 265, French 180, Castilian 350, Portuguese 155) for a total of 58.275 copies of the Bulletin in 6 language editions. DOCUMENTATION In addition, documentation regarding the Synod of Bishops, was distributed to accredited journalists. INFORMATION MADE AVAILABLE IN ELECTRONIC FORM The temporary office of the Holy See Press Office, responsible for the publication and translation of the information of the Special Assembly for America of the Synod of Bishops, made available, in electronic form, all the information published, for a total of 1,455 files of 291 texts in 5 language versions (Italian, English, French, Castilian and Portuguese) and of 210 files for 35 Bulletins in 6 language versions (plurilingual, Italian, English, French, Castilian and Portuguese), to the Graphic Office of LOsservatore Roman, to the SEDOC (Central Documentation Service) of Vatican Radio, and to the Editorial Office of Vatican Information Service. In addition, this office has furnished the publication department of the Holy See Press Office with the Bulletin Synodus Episcoporum in the plurilingual editions, in electronic form, for on-line transmission through GEIS. Moreover, for the first time, the office has handled the edition in HTLM and transmission on Internet of the Bulletin Synodus Episcoporum, in 6 language versions (plurilingual, Italian, English, French, Castilian and Portuguese), at the Holy See Internet address ( http://www.vatican.va). From 17 November to 12 December 1997, the Bulletin was consulted 83.962 times, for a daily average of 3.413 consultations. For this Special Assembly for America of the Synod of Bishops, in addition to the 300 permanently accredited journalists, there were accredited 130 correspondents who especially came to Rome to cover the event. Of these there were 15 in the Italian language group, 48 in the English language group, 18 in the French language group, 49 in the Castilian - Portuguese language group; from Europe (32), from South America (32), from Central America (8), from North America (56), and from Asia (2). The Management of the Holy See Press Office wishes to express their wholehearted gratitude to those that have so efficaciously collaborated, at every level, with their generosity and continuous availability, in services directly and indirectly connected with the successful providing of information concerning the Special Assembly for America of the Synod of Bishops.
